Summary
The dentin anchor was developed by OSU researchers as an alternative insert to the existing titanium and stainless steel dentin miniposts commonly used for retaining amalgam, composite resin and glass inomer build up restorations, usually when one or more dental cusps are fractured. The new dentin anchor has a modulus of elasticity closer to dentinal tissue and is able to be chemically bonded to dentin and the restorative material, without the problems of lacking of boding and producing of dental cracks due to the metallic retentive miniscrews.
