Technology description

Its unique, patent pending design also makes the device appropriate for veterinary and research ophthalmic markets and versatile enough to be used in implanting materials in other parts of the body.

The R-D Implantation Instrument has been designed for a primary indication of drug delivery and stem cell and tissue transplantation procedures to the retina.

The device consists of a nozzle and mandrel assembly, and a handle or hand piece.

Application area

The R-D Implantation Instrument was designed for use in ophthalmic surgeries to provide:
1.) Drug delivery under the conjunctiva, into the vitreous or subretinally;
2.) Subretinal tissue/cell transplantation;
3.) Microchip/device implantation on the surface of or under the retina.

Advantages

Due to the unique design, delicate material is not damaged by pushing it from the nozzle, but is left in place by retraction of the nozzle.

The instrument can accommodate the use of both suction and light. The device can be used with varying size nozzle/mandrel assemblies depending on the application.

The device can be quickly transformed using additional inserts to accommodate tissue implantation, retinal chips, or slow-release pharmaceutical products for implantation, both internally and externally.
