A simple inexpensive urine-based assay using Congo Red to detect congophilic protein aggregates in the urine of Preeclampsia (PE) patients, PE is a disease of abnormal protein misfolding and aggregation similar to other disorders such as the amyloidoses. PE is a disorder of unknown etiology during pregnancy and is a leading contributor to maternal and perinatal morbidity. At present there is no cure for PE except for induced premature delivery with associated risks for the baby, so there is a medical need for a validated test to aid in the diagnosis and clinical decision making
