Technology description

Background
Sexual function can be affected by use of pharmaceutical agents such as anti-depressants and blood pressure medications. One or more phases of sexual function may be affected. Pharmaceutical companies monitor patients treated with their drugs to assess their effect on sexual function.

Technology
The ASEX Scale was first presented by University of Arizona investigators at the Clinical Conference on Antidepressant Therapy and Sexual Dysfunction held on May 21, 1998, in New York, NY, sponsored by the University of Minnesota in cooperation with the National Mental Health Association and supported by an unrestricted educational grant for Organon, Inc. A subsequent publication appeared in Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy.

Application area

Since 1998, the ASEX Scale has been used by pharmaceutical companies and clinics worldwide to assess sexual function in patients treated with therapeutic agents. Questionnaires appropriate for male or female patients are available.
