Specimen testing laboratories, hospitals, and clinics currently solely offer stand-alone plastic collection containers for urine collection. Certain patients – especially female, pregnant, elderly, pediatric, and disabled or physically-challenged – face difficulty holding a cup underneath their body when collecting urine. Often, the urine stream spills onto the skin, the hand or arm touches the toilet, or the amount of urine collected is insufficient. A more functional and easier to use collection container is both necessary and valuable.
A USC inventor has designed a new urine specimen collection container. The designed apparatus comes in two forms that provides easier maneuverability during urine collection. This lightweight apparatus allows the patient to easily place the cup underneath themselves while their hand stays away from the urine stream and toilet. Additionally, the design allows for a second individual to hold the specimen container in place without having their hand underneath the patient or near the toilet if the patient is unable to hold the container.
