Background For many adults, dental implants offer a permanent solution for replacing lost teeth. In certain instances, excessive torque or shear forces can cause the implant abutment screw to break into two parts. The head of the screw remains attached to the abutment and can be freely removed from the mouth. The threaded portion of the screw remains within the permanent implant, which poses a problem for dentists because it is difficult and time consuming to remove. Technology The Dental Abutment Screw Extractor attaches to the broken screw fragment so it can successfully be removed from the implant. The device provides an easy and effective way to remove a broken abutment screw fragment with minimal risk of damaging the permanent dental implant.
