Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the developed countries at tremendous social and healthcare costs. Since mice as models of human diseases have been widely used in atherosclerosis research, the goal of this technology-driven project is to develop the most advanced micro-CT tool for imaging of atherosclerosis plaques in live mice. The proposed technology has not only a significant impact on preclinical studies but also a great translational potential for screening and identifying high-risk patients with vulnerable atherosclerosis plaques, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
