Description
Researchers at UC San Diego have discovered a novel method of detecting and inhibiting angiogenesis. In vivoexperiments have shown that angiogenesis induced by a wide range of pro-angiogenic factors can be completely or significantly inhibited with antibody, peptide or organic molecule inhibitors of the newly identified target. Because angiogenesis plays a key role in the growth and spread of tumors, neovascular eye diseases, and inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, this method has great potential as a highly specific therapeutic approach to the management of these diseases.
