As a gram-negative bacteria, Streptococcus suis (S. suis) causes meningitis, endocarditis, septicemia, pneumonia, abortion and so on. It is a common infectious disease (Wisselink H.J et al., Vet.). Microbiol., 113: 73 to 82, 2006). For the world, infection with S. suis in the pig breeding field will lead to very heavy economic losses, and it will also cause a series of problems in the health management of pigs. S. suis is parasitic on the upper respiratory tract and small intestine (Robertson, I.D. Et al., Vet. Rec., 124: 391-394, 1989), the infected adult pigs will appear asymptomatic, and the virus will continue to spread to other pigs (Sriskandan, S. et al., PLoS Med., 3: e1878, 2006) during the incubation period. When young pigs are infected with the virus, they die of meningitis and septicemia. At the same time, S. suis can also be transmitted to people in direct contact with animals, which is a zoonotic disease (Kennedy, K.J et al., Med.). J. Aust., 189: 413, 2008), mainly in Southeast Asia, East and West Asia, causing meningitis. In 2005, 215 patients in Sichuan, China were infected with the virus through contact with pigs, resulting in 38 deaths from (Yu, H et al.,Emerg. Infect. Dis., 12: 914-920, 2006). Nowadays, fluoroisoquinoline antibiotics are more commonly used in (Wang, L. et al., Braz.. J. Microbiol., 40: 980 to 987, 2009), S. suis is becoming more and more resistant, and its therapeutic effect is also significantly decreased.
For a long time, Korean medicinal materials have been used as therapeutic agents for infectious diseases in many Asian countries, including China and South Korea. Chinese nutgall has been effective in treating diarrhea, persistent cough and sudden sweating since ancient times. Gallnut contains many tannic acid ingredients such as methyl gallate and Gallic acid (Chen, J.C. Et al., J.Ethnopharmacol., 103: 385-391, 2006). The soluble tannic acid polymer gallnut tannin produced by Gallic acid has anti-bacterial effect (Pettinari, A. et al., Antioxid.. Redox Signal., 8: 121-129, 2006), methyl gallate and Gallic acid have good antibacterial activity against coliform and Streptococcus.
The invention is a composition for treating Streptococcus suis, in particular, a composition for treating Streptococcus suis containing gallnut and sodium chloride.
