Isolation of an Ohio Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) PC22A Strain in Cell Culture

Technology description

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) has historically been an exotic disease to the U.S.. As of May, 2013, the virus made its way from China to the U.S.. This virus causes nearly 100% mortality in piglets and ranges from 80-90% morbidity. There is currently no PEDV vaccine in production. This invention disclosure documents one of the first successful adaptations of the virus to cell culture (Iowa was the first). This isolate can now be used for generating both autogenous vaccines as well as live attenuated vaccines.
