Manual and protocols for testing the germicidal properties of chemicals.
This manual provides general quantitative carrier test (QCT) protocols to assess the germicidal activities of liquid chemicals. The basic intent in designing these tests was to be fair to the manufacturer while giving the user a level of assurance that the product selected can meet its label claims. These protocols represent two tiers of testing, QCT-1 and QCT-2, to examine progressive challenges to a formulation and can be used during product development as well as for pre- or post- market evaluation of product performance.
The Manual Includes:
• Separate videos on DVD showing the basic procedures for QCT-1 and QCT-2 are included with this manual to further assist those wishing to use these test protocols. • Rationales for the use of the QCT • Step-by-step guides on how to conduct the tests • Definition and separation of the two tiers of QCT • Testing for sporicidal, bactericidal, mycobactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal activity
Limitations
This manual does not cover any additional simulated or ‘in-use’ testing required for germicides intended for use on medical devices.
Application area
We believe that this unification of testing for all microbial classes represents a major step forward in achieving harmonization of germicide test methodology within a given jurisdiction with a strong potential for harmonization with other countries and regions.
